AllMusic Review by

Trombonist Turk Murphy was the leader of one of the major trad/San Francisco jazz bands of the 1950s and '60s and considered an institution. The spirited Music for Wise Guys and Boosters LP is fairly typical of his output, with Murphy and Pat Yankee heard on a few vocals apiece, fine solos from trumpeter Robert Short and clarinetist Bob Helm, and such tunes performed as "Ace in the Hole," "You've Got to See Mamma Every Night," "Frankie and Johnny," and "Silver Dollar." Call it Dixieland, classic jazz, San Francisco jazz, or anything else; this music is quite fun and enjoyable.
