The Muppet Babies Rocket to the Stars could aptly be titled "the extended mixes." The songs all appeared in the 1980s cartoon but just as each song seems to end, an intrusive saxophone or other instrumentals create a bridge to the "real" finale. The effect is that, attempting to bring this kid's music to dramatic lengths, otherwise enjoyable songs wear out their welcome. It might have been a good idea to keep the songs in their made for TV edited length and used the extra space to include more songs, since there are only ten tracks. The album is loaded with dialogue, creating more of a storybook format than a musical album. Fans will enjoy hearing the voices of Frank Welker as Kermit, comedian Howie Mandel as Skeeter and Animal, and Leave It To Beaver's Barbara Billingsley as the tender caretaker, Nanny. One of the refreshing things about Muppet Babies is that their voices are created by naturally contorted vocal talents to create childlike voices instead of synthetic altering (like the Chipmunks or the Smurfs).
