As the decade progressed, MTV Party to Go albums appeared less and less frequently, necessitating the dropping of "volumes" from their title. Now, they only sport their year, such as MTV Party to Go 1998. Like any of the Party to Go albums, the collection is a continuous-mix record of hit singles and dance club favorites, some of which are available in remixes or edits, others of which are presented in their original form. It's intended to sound like a dance club, and it comes remarkably close to achieving its goal. Furthermore, it's simply entertaining, thanks to a parade of hits like Lil' Kim's "Not Tonight (Ladies Night)," Mark Morrison's "Return of the Mack," the Backstreet Boys' "Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)," Snoop Doggy Dogg's "Snoop's Upside Your Head," the Chemical Brothers' "Block Rockin' Beats," Ginuwine's "Pony," Dr. Dre's "Been There, Done That," Aaliyah's "If Your Girl Only Knew," and Blackstreet's "No Diggity," among others. It makes for a party album that's genuinely fun.
