AllMusic Review by

Curtis Mayfield is inarguably one of the giants of soul, turning out work equally great with the Impressions and as a solo artist alike -- and making great singles and albums simultaneously. There are so many great moments in his catalog that it's easy to make a good collection of highlights, which Sequel's Move on Up: The Singles Anthology most certainly is. That doesn't mean it's the perfect collection. At two discs and 39 tracks, it actually suffers from over-length and evenhandedness, offering a bit too much of the late-'70s work that simply isn't as good as the music from the early '70s. Nevertheless, this is a thorough overview of Curtis' Curtom singles, and for some listeners, that may be a selling point, even though MCA's 1992 Anthology 1961-1977 provides a better overview of his peak work.
