For the second half of the 2000s, Universal's Hip-O Select dealt out a monstrous 14 Complete Motown Singles box sets one by one, making available every B-side and hit single from Motown Records and its subsidiaries during the Detroit years. 2012's Motown Unreleased 1962: Guys, Vol. 2 digs deeper into the archives of Hitsville USA, compiling the unreleased material from the roster's male acts in the developmental year just before the label struck gold. Continuing where Vol. 1 left off, this widens the span of artists, with songs by Lee & the Leopards, Mike & the Modifiers, Andre Williams, Singin' Sammy Ward, and Johnny Powers. Pre-Farfisa organ, the Mysterions, who would go on to record "96 Tears" show their stuff as a capable sax group, but the true payoffs are the early uptempo soul jams by the Miracles and the Temptations.
