AllMusic Review by

For the second half of the 2000s, Universal's Hip-O Select dealt out a monstrous 14 Complete Motown Singles box sets one by one, making available every B-side and hit single from Motown Records and its subsidiaries during the Detroit years. Issued in 2012, Motown Unreleased 1962: Guys, Vol. 1 digs deeper into the archives of Hitsville USA, compiling the unreleased material from the roster's male acts in the developmental year just before the label struck gold. Six unreleased Marvin Gaye songs are included, from his favorite, simple supper-club period, just before he scored the hits "Pride & Joy" and "Can I Get a Witness," and the songs by the Contours (the group responsible for "Do You Love Me"), the Creations, and Freddie Gorman are worth investigating, too.
