Sam Most, who had only led one record date since 1958, headed four albums for Xanadu from 1976-1979, of which this was the first. A brilliant flutist who was one of the pioneers of the instrument in jazz, Most switches to clarinet (where he is an equally talented bop player) on two of the seven selections during this high-quality set. Teamed up with guitarist Tal Farlow, pianist Duke Jordan, bassist Sam Jones, and drummer Billy Higgins, Most makes the most difficult ideas sound effortless. Highlights are two numbers ("Street of Dreams" and "Body and Soul") that are flute/guitar duets.
