Four brilliant compositions for piano solo and orchestra. Includes: Galina Ustvolskaya's dramatic and inspirational Concerto for piano, string orchestra and timpani moving from an oppressive (Soviet) atmosphere to hopeful future images, Sofia Gubaidulina Introitus Concerto for piano and chamber orchestra, Henryk Górecki Concerto for piano and string orchestra Op. 40, Georgs Pelécis Concertino bianco for piano and chamber orchestra in C major, a charming work written all in natural white key modes (an idea also explored earlier by Cage's String Quartet, Philip Krumm's Piano Variations, Jon Gibson's R.C. Chorales, etc.). Played by the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen (German Chamber Philharmonic of Bremen), conducted by Heinrich Schiff.
