This live improvisation features the three members of Mora: Brent Gutzeit, Jason Soliday, and Philip Von Zweck, plus guest star Andreas Berthling. It's really quite remarkable that it took four people to create this improvisation, because aside from a few minutes at the beginning and end where the participants are clearly all contributing to the electronic beeps, drones and static, this extended piece is so minimal that it sounds like a solo performance. (Given the way the piece moves, almost imperceptibly from one tone to another every few minutes, the performers may well be working sequentially rather than in unison.) There's one nearly silent section, from about 7:30 to just before the ten minute mark, that sounds like either an homage to John Cage's 4' 33'' or the sound of an old refrigerator on a hot summer day; while others are closer to the sound of surf or decaying radio waves. The clash of overtones and harmonics seems to be the point of this improvisation, and careful listening reveals some fascinating sonic effects, but Mora + A is strictly for the experimental music faithful.
