AllMusic Review by

This mid-priced reissue presents 27 minutes' worth of early Erroll Garner, ten tracks originally released on Savoy Records. Only "Somebody Loves Me," on which the pianist is accompanied by bassist John Levy, Jr., and drummer George Dellart, is from 1945; the rest of the tracks, also pop and jazz standards, date from 1949 and feature John Simmons on bass and Alvin Stoller on drums. In his mid-twenties, Garner is already an accomplished improviser, even though the time restrictions of the original 78 rpm singles prevent him from really showing what he can do. The masters have been sonically cleaned, but the sound still reflects the age of the recordings. Nevertheless, this is an inexpensive way to hear a master in his youth.
