AllMusic Review by

Monster New Wave Hits, a three-disc box released by Cleopatra, is filled with poor re-recordings, inferior cover versions, and fair-to-bad live cuts. Nothing on the packaging indicates the inclusion of re-recordings or live versions. The label uses a number of tracks from its assortment of covers albums, so you get Shiny Toy Guns' "Stripped" (Depeche Mode), Dirty Sanchez's "Sex Dwarf" (Soft Cell), Apoptygma Berzerk's "Electricity" (OMD), Dead or Alive's "Pop Life" (Prince), and Tre Lux's "Never Let Me Down Again" (Depeche Mode again). The variety is peculiar as well, ranging far outside new wave: there can't be too many people who will be excited at the thought of having Tiffany's "I Think We're Alone Now" on the same set as Missing Persons' "Walking in L.A." And those who are excited could only be let down when they don't hear the original versions.
