Although this LP came out in the late '50s, some of the music (which features four different pianists) has been largely unavailable since. From 1946-47, Art Tatum, Mary Lou Williams, Erroll Garner and Lennie Tristano recorded a few titles apiece for Victor. Tristano is only heard on "Ghost of a Chance," but there are three titles included by Tatum and four from Garner (including "Erroll's Blues" and "Erroll's Bounce"). While those pianists are heard in unaccompanied solos, Mary Lou Williams has two trio numbers (including "Waltz Boogie"), takes her own "Fifth Dimension" solo, and leads an all-female quintet on "Conversation." These uniformly excellent, Leonard Feather-produced performances deserve to be reissued on CD complete with the other selections from the sessions.
