AllMusic Review by

With his maverick open tuning and unorthodox, driving, and rhythmic approach to acoustic guitar playing, coupled with his smoke and fog, tender and gruff singing voice, and his humanitarian concern for a better world, Richie Havens was the very epitome of a 1960s folk-singing troubadour, never abandoning his core strengths even as he dabbled in new recording technologies and negotiated the waters of the contemporary media world. Between 2006 and 2009, before his health began to seriously fail, he continued to work on creative projects, including this one, a mini-album for kids that includes a duet with Kris Kristofferson on Woody Guthrie's "Grassy, Grass, Grass," his versions of songs by Leah Sarah Price ("Welcome to My Castle") and Patrick Noth ("Kid Hop Rhyme"), as well as "Did You Know," a song Havens co-wrote.
