AllMusic Review by

João Nogueira (deceased in 2000) was one of the great composers/interpreters of carioca samba, the real thing that draws on the rich traditions of the hills even if it uses studio techniques/instruments to reach a wider audience. A middle-class artist who was good enough to be admitted in Portela's à la dos compositores, he never betrayed the samba ideals, being celebrated by the true sambistas. This compilation has songs from the albums Clube Do Samba (from 1979, with "Súplica" and "Enganadora"), Na Boca Do Povo (from 1980, with "Poder Da Criação" and "A força Do Samba"), and Wilson, Geraldo E Noel (from 1981, where he paid tribute to Wilson Batista, Geraldo Batista, and Noel Rosa, with "Bolinha de Papel," "O Maior Castigo Que Te Dou," "Louco," "Feitio de Oração," "De Babado...," this one with Alcione).
