For this set, "The Great Jazz Trio" consists of pianist Hank Jones (a constant in the part-time group), bassist Ron Carter and drummer Tony Williams. Jones often played at his most modern in this combo, which is fortunate, for the repertoire on this out-of-print LP (originally cut for the Japanese East Wind label) includes such advanced tunes as "Milestones," Carter's "Eighty-One" and Williams' "Mr. Biko." Excellent advanced modern mainstream music that features the three musicians almost operating as equals.
