Swiss alto saxophonist George Robert is accompanied by the Metropole Orchestra in two studio sessions from 1993 and 1994. The 60-piece orchestra, directed by Rob Pronk, provides lush backgrounds for its guest, who is the primary focus of each track. A great mix of standards includes "My Secret Love" (with Robert's playing sounding very similar to that of Phil Woods), a lively bossa nova arrangement of "East of the Sun" (featuring Robert's lyrical clarinet), and a memorable "In a Sentimental Mood," in which Robert stretches the range of his alto sax to resemble the sound of a soprano sax at times. Robert's three original compositions are also very enjoyable, especially the haunting ballad "Missing You" and the loping "Remembering Henri."
