Mixed by DJ Marcus Schmahl (aka Guardner), Metro One Collection is a set of downtempo dance music that throws in shades of dubby house and elements of Brazilian jazz. Identikit DJ mixes were a dime a dozen in 2002, but ones that managed to fit the smeary microhouse of Dub Taylor's "Summer Rainbow" in with the acid jazz house of St. Germain's "Sentimental Mood" weren't exactly commonplace. Schmahl leaves plenty of room for his own decent productions, including Rauschfaktor's "Aquarium Cafe," as well as Guardner's "Low Summer Frequencies" and "The Future Is My Melody." Though a bit faceless, Metro One Collection is better than it looks; even the snobbiest dance-music freaks can find something to like about it. It has a relaxing, summer afternoon float to it and doesn't play stylistic favorites.
