AllMusic Review by

American outsider Philip Corner created avant-garde compositions in the post-John Cage tradition, and Metal Meditations documents his experimentation with the resonant properties of amplified metal objects. A limited-edition LP on the Alga Marghen label and released in 1997, the recording dates from 20 years previous when Corner performed these articulated experimental works in New York. Accompanied by fellow sonic artist David Behrman on side one, the duo create a resonant sheen of harmonic tones from the found percussion. Side two features a long meditation on resonant tones made by Corner and American sculptor Bill Fontana, whose suspended spiral sculptures are invoked in the sound, which similarly lingers and floats in the still air of a gallery.
