AllMusic Review by

Mercy Mercy Me is a dodgy reissue of a previously released set by Charly titled Long Beach 1983. As per the usual m.o. of this label, there are no liner notes to speak of, and no real packaging to speak of. At least the Charly set gave you complete personnel details, and liners that discussed Bland's career up to that date. The strange thing is that is Charly, one of the great and respectable U.K. labels, maybe have bought a pirated set of tapes as well. Musically, the set is lively, a lot more blues than soul, and it's horn- and electric guitar-driven and punchy. The mix isn't particularly good and the horns sound tinny most of the time, and the mix is way off, sometimes burying the singer as well. The song selection is a good one as can be seen by track list, but unless one is a seriously devoted Bobby "Blue" Bland fan there is little of interest here. Any of the essential collections from Duke or MCA will offer far better results.
