Despite spanning from 1960 to 1993, Memory Lane is anything but an all-inclusive Mighty Clouds of Joy retrospective; while all ten of its performances are indeed stirring, the narrow scope of the set is hugely disappointing. Including neither "Mighty High" nor "Time," their disco-era R&B hits, the collection instead draws primarily from just a handful of LPs, with no less than four tracks apiece from the LPs Cloudburst and Mighty Clouds Alive; while Memory Lane does offer new listeners a decent idea of just what the Mighty Clouds are about, longtime fans hoping for an exhaustive career overview are looking in the wrong place.
