Roger Miller has an amiable, pleasant voice with just a touch of twang -- very easy on the ears. This nostalgic EP contains five of his all-time favorite hits: the hangdog "Dang Me," the upbeat, cheerful "England Swings," the boozy "Chug-a-Lug," and the gently sad "Engine, Engine #9," with its lyrics, "110 miles ain't much distance/But it shore does make a difference/I don't think she loves me anymore." Of course, no Roger Miller retrospective is complete without his trademark tune, "King of the Road," about a cheerful bum who knows "every handout in every town/and every lock that ain't locked when no one's around," and is quite content with his rambling life. Recommended for listeners who want the essential highlights of Miller's long country, pop, and comedy career.
