AllMusic Review by

This budget-priced, two-disc set from Recall Records collects nearly everything Donovan recorded for Pye Records in 1965, a scant year before he signed with Epic Records and re-emerged as a flower power pop star with "Sunshine Superman." Some of that bejeweled sensibility is already apparent in these tracks, but for the most part this is Donovan as a straight folk singer, and he isn't bad at it at all. This collection is only a couple of alternate takes and the obscure "Every Man Has His Chain" (which originally was only available on a French EP) away from having practically everything that Donovan recorded during his sessions for Pye. One song in particular here, the dreamy and baroque "Sunny Goodge Street," clearly sets up the template that Donovan would follow in the future.
