Mega Rock Vol. 1 Review

by Tim Sendra

Mega Rock, Vol. 1 is a ten-song collection of pop hits from the '80s. There's no unifying theme or purpose to the disc; it plays like a very liberal 30 minutes of '80s radio. Basically, the songs represent the pop side of new wave ('Til Tuesday's "Voices Carry," the Psychedelic Furs' "Pretty in Pink," the Bangles' "Manic Monday") and album rock (REO Speedwagon's "Take It on the Run," Scandal's "The Warrior," Santana's "Winning") with a couple of rockers like the Romantics' "What I Like About You" and Loverboy's "Hot Girls in Love" thrown in to keep things lively. The disc could have been longer and packaged more attractively but for someone who doesn't want to spend much cash and likes his or her nostalgia on the gentle side, this wouldn't be a terrible choice. You could probably do better though.
