The B-52's nearly squandered all of the good will they earned with Cosmic Thing by milking the mediocre Good Stuff for all it was worth. So what did they decided to do for a follow-up? They renamed themselves the BC-52's and recorded a version of "(Meet) The Flintstones" for the big-budget spectacular The Flintstones. In the grand scheme of things, it probably wasn't the wisest move, but they certainly were well compensated for their efforts, and the whole sordid affair was nearly forgotten four years after the fact. OH! Almost forgot -- the single itself is about what you'd expect, except worse, some unholy mix of Hanna-Barbera and "Love Shack." And the single -- released commercially only in the U.K. (backed by three remixes -- "Space Cowboy Mix 1," "Dabba Doo Dub," "Yabba Dabba Dub") and in Europe backed by three remixes, including two different mixes ("Barney's Edit," "Instrumental") -- only gets more irritating with each further variation. Truly the nadir of the band's career. Perhaps it was a coincidence that they didn't release another record for nearly four years, but perhaps not.
