Mayor McCA is improving. Lets at least give him that. On Me Is He, Christian Anderson Smith's third full-length release as McCA, he does reach some possible career high points, as on the genuine, heartfelt-sounding "Sitting on a Hill." But then there are the low points, which tend to stick out like a sore thumb because of their jarring nature. "That's a Wrap" is probably the easiest example to name because it's just painful to listen to. Sure, sure, he's trying to be funny and witty in his one-man-band kind of way, but where Beck flawlessly weaves genres into and out of one another, Smith takes a lot of effort -- and it shows through in these numbers on this otherwise decent CD. If you have the ability to listen to each song for what it is worth, you may find some enjoyment here. Hopefully Smith will discover a better way to produce a cohesive-sounding album, because there are only a few road blocks here, namely the previously mentioned "That's a Wrap" and also the garagey "I'm Getting Fat"/"I'm Getting Skinny."
