Combining vocals that fall somewhere between Stevie Nicks and Natalie Merchant, Deanna Knudsen specializes in an intricate blend of soulful country-rock. Tracks like "Different," which almost marries a girl group-like aesthetic to a more roots rock sound, and the haunting piano of "Falling From Grace" are fine evidence of just how much Knudsen stretches out over the EP's six tracks. Keyboards are also frequently used to provide soothing atmospherics, as the textures here are overall pleasant though not overwhelmingly distinctive. Still, as a brief debut, Mayfair Days does a fine job of introducing Knudsen as a promising talent.
