AllMusic Review by

The Netherlands' PTG label continues to divide club-oriented '80s R&B between their Disco Giants, Nighttime Lovers, and Masterpiece: The Ultimate Disco Funk Collection series, with the last of the bunch typically involving the most obscure content. On the 12th volume of Masterpiece, the Chi-Lites have the biggest name by a significant margin, and they also provide the most popular song here with "Bottom's Up," a Top Ten R&B single from 1983. After that, there's a lot of OK and marginal synth funk, including Prime Time's "Baby Don't Break My Back" (Total Experience, 1984), Carl Smith's "Come Back Lover" (Clarence Music, 1984), and B.B.C.S. & A.'s "Rock Shock" (Sam, 1982).
