AllMusic Review by

Useful if you like mixes that are eclectic, a little quirky, and filled with strange juxtapositions of popular tracks, Mastercuts: Bar Grooves is a two-disc mix with tracks that span several decades and styles. Since the set is mixed, it won't do you any good if you're in need of these tracks in complete form, but others might find it handy in lieu of a DJ or an MP3 player on shuffle. There are several enduring inclusions, such as Mary J. Blige's "Be Happy," Grace Jones' "Pull Up to the Bumper," Roy Ayers Ubiquity's "Everybody Loves the Sunshine," the Crusaders' "Street Life," and Public Enemy's "Don't Believe the Hype," but the odds aren't great that many people will want to hear Beck's "Loser" between the Masters at Work mix of Nina Simone's "See Line Woman" and Ms. Dynamite's "Dy-Na-Mi-Tee."
