The third volume dedicated to the music played at Paris' and New York City's Man Ray restaurants was put together by DJ Nat Rahav of the New York outpost. Like the previous volumes, Man Ray, Vol. 3 sticks to laid-back loungey electronic music with lightly sung vocals and breezy rhythms. It's not exactly a who's who of downtempo club/dance music circa 2003, but it does hold an edge over many of the chillout-themed compilations. On the minus side, it's not as if most of these songs haven't been presented several times over -- for instance, at last count, Faze Action's Brazilian house tune, "Samba," has been included on a dozen other compilations. And, as it goes with most highly fashion-oriented discs like this, there's a hint of smug cosmopolitan-ness in the air. You don't necessarily have to be dining in an über-posh environment to enjoy this background music, though it does help.
