Recorded in 1992, this CD is a revelation for those who know of Malta only in the context of war and crusades. The music and singing betray Southern Italian influences, though the Maltese language gives the songs a flavor of the Portuguese fado. As the notes make clear, there are also strong Semitic and Maghrebi influences. The CD contains two beautiful slow ballads and two of the hugely popular singing contests, both to the elegant backing of two guitars.
