Lilting melodies, syncopated Latin percussion, and smooth tenor vocals singing romantic lyrics in Spanish characterize the music of Desconocidos. The lively call-and-response singing recalls the Gipsy Kings at times, but in this band, while there tends to be a dominant guitar line, it's usually an electric one playing with a warm, rounded tone in single high notes, much as in South African mbaqanga, whereas the Gipsy Kings favor massed acoustic guitar strumming in a far more furious manner. This is much more relaxed music, made for the tropics, even when a rap intrudes in the final song, "Pensando en Ti," and more romantic as a result, even if the tempo never slows.
