This collection of classic Italian folk from Domenico Modugno is a dark and melancholy batch of songs. Modugno has a very driving, dramatic sound that emphasizes his passion but doesn't quite strike the appropriate mood. Still, this is fascinating music if only for the odd arrangements and style of singing, and that alone may draw in some listeners. Fans of Italian folk and pop may want to give this a listen, there are some interesting ideas here that aren't always fleshed out, but offer a unique alternative to the North American version of this sound.
