The music scene is full of composers or songwriters whose creations are better-known than they are. If Hank Cochran has been frustrated in his attempts to launch a career as a performer, he has certainly kept quiet about it, as he is a country artist who has mostly remained in the background, recording only about a half-dozen complete albums under his own name. He has made up for that with a legacy of classic country songs recorded by other artists, some of which are included on this collection. Cochran is a likeable character whose songwriting talents are not to be disputed. He is not an especially charismatic vocalist, however, and listeners will no doubt want to return, for example, to Johnny Paycheck's take on "A-11" which is simply a lot more lively. The underrated and largely unknown Tuscaloosa-based country artist Rock Killough was involved in the production, as was super country session bassist Michael Rhodes. Listen for a guest appearance by Cochran pal Willie Nelson, credited only in the fine print.
