At last! Here are the complete works of composer and ragtime violinist Russell, who during the 1930s composed some of the most cantankerous and original percussion music ever heard. This CD includes such works as the six-minute "Trumpet Concerto," the lively "Four Dance Movements," "Three Cuban Pieces," "March Suite" (with the movements School March, Wedding March, Military March, Hunger March, and Funeral March), "Chicago Sketches" (with each movement named after an address: 3525 S. Dearborn, 5507 S. Michigan, 4726 S. State), "Ogou Badagri" from 1933 (music for the ballet based on the voodoo rites of Haiti), and of course "Made in America" from 1936. Another true American original.
