Love Songs 2: Expressions of Love collects ten ballads that hit the pop charts between 1981 and 1991. As this collection proves, music changes quite a bit during the course of a decade, since this runs the gamut from stylishly smooth urban soul from the early '80s (Smokey Robinson's "Being With You," Quincy Jones & James Ingram's "Just Once," Benny Mardones' "Into the Night") to power ballads at the start of the '90s (Giant's "I'll See You in My Dreams," Styx's "Show Me the Way"). There are several songs that don't fit into those two categories, of course, such as Chris DeBurgh's Europop slow dancer "The Lady in Red," Vanessa Williams' post-urban soul ballad "Dreamin'," and Extreme's nifty Everly Brothers update, "More Than Words." This gives Love Songs 2 variety, making this ten-track collection a good bargain and an interesting listen.
