This first part of a two-part series of gospel performances on the "Louisiana Hayride" radio program from the '50s and '60s, like other volumes in Music Mill's "Louisiana Hayride" series, contains only ten songs in wildly varying fidelity. Clocking in at just over 23 minutes, this volume and the second could have fit onto one disc with plenty of room to spare. This first volume features two tracks by the Jordanaires and one track each by Eddy Arnold, Roy Acuff, George Jones, Red Foley, the Louvin Brothers, and more. The most interesting item on the set is T. Texas Tyler's live recitation of "Deck of Cards." The lesser-known Plainsmen Quartet and Deep South Quartet are probably included because their two recordings are the only ones on the disc in reasonable fidelity. All of the other tracks are bootleg quality and strictly for completists and hardcore collectors. Although these recordings have some historical value, that value is diminished by the lack of informative liner notes and recording information.
