It's pretty hard to create a saga with simply ten songs, especially if there appears to be no rhyme or reason behind the selection of the songs. Such is the case with Sony Special Products' The Louis Armstrong Saga. Featuring just ten songs -- some classics, some merely very good -- the collection hints at Satchmo's legacy without coming to any conclusions, simply because it doesn't have enough songs and the inclusion of some songs, such as "Cabaret," is a little puzzling. Nevertheless, one shouldn't expect much from a budget line collection, and if you're listening to the disc simply expecting an enjoyable listen, you won't be disappointed. Perhaps that is the reason why this is better suited for the casual and curious listener than the serious fan, the historian or the purist.
