AllMusic Review by

The Lost Deep Soul Treasures series continues with another volume of absolutely necessary, indispensable music. The anonymous producers of these compilations are to be commended for bringing these tracks to the light of day again after decades in obscurity. But since there is no documentation (not even songwriting credits), it is safe to assume that these tracks were not issued legally. Here are 24 more killer cuts of the deepest of Southern soul, featuring well-established artists such as Sam & Dave ("Living It Up"), O.V. Wright ("To You Shall I Cling"), and Reuben Bell ("Asking for the Truth"). In addition, there are stunning works by lesser known or unknown soul artists such as Delilah, Pete Cook, and Mary Holmes (whose "After I Shed a Tear" will have you weeping buckets), an unreleased cut by Tommy Louis, and the killer "Talk to Me" by Inez Foxx. The consistency of the material is one thing -- all of it is top-notch -- but the emotional transference that happens in taking in more than an hour of these songs is remarkable.
