There are numerous Pedro Infante collections on the market, and while Madacy Latino's Los Inmortales isn't the greatest, it's certainly not the worst. The 12 songs included move fluidly between Infante's aromatic balladry ("Mujer," "Contigo en la Distancia") and more upbeat Latin pop vocal material ("Ella," "Te Quiero Así"). Unfortunately, the second half of Inmortales is plagued with fidelity issues. Most of the selections sound like captures from ancient radio broadcasts, or even bad transfers from musty old 78s. Well, some surface noise is to be expected with older recordings (and even accepted as part of the music's evocative feel), but too much of this collection features clicks and buzzes over Infante's rich vocals. Satisfactory as a budge-line release only.
