Bruce Dunlap is a very jazzy guitarist. His playing on Los Animales is easy-going, setting tightly knit pieces against a breezy backdrop of loping rhythms and solid bottom. Dunlap finds softer tones and poetic hues in much of his playing, and his writing is uniformly clever in a meditative manner, intellectually satisfying without being overly challenging. One vocal, sung by the up and coming Sara K., solidifies the jazz roots and provides the group on "Los Animales" room to stretch out.
