Lookin' for Trouble Review

by Ed Hogan

Former Mother's Finest lead singer Joyce Kennedy made her A&M solo debut with Lookin' for Trouble. The Chicago native left behind her hard rock/funk leanings but her powerhouse vocals were still in place.Produced mostly by Leon F. Sylvers III, her sound still leans toward funk, but its mixed in with such pop stylings as the Carole Bayer Sager/Burt Bacharach ballad,"Stronger Than Before,."The song was covered by Chaka Khan around the same time on her I Feel For You LP.The highest charting single from the LP was the Kennedy/Jeffrey Osborne ballad," The Last Time I Made Love,,"written by Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil.It remains the singer strongest bid for Top 40 Pop success, making it to number 2 R&B/number 40 Pop on Billboard's charts in summer 1984.It's on Osborne's Ultimate Collection.Lookin' For Trouble went to number 17 R&B/number 79 Pop in fall 1984.
