Loft Party: New York City Review

by Rob Theakston

The immediate misconception that could be made when seeing the words "Loft" and "New York City" together is forgivable, as for dance music enthusiasts the word "Loft" takes on a whole new meaning. But this is not another installment of classic tracks from the famous series of Loft parties compiled by legendary DJ David Mancuso. Rather, this is the sound of the Upper East Side at a super-posh luxury loft that probably costs more than most people purchasing this compilation will ever be able to afford. It's 22 tracks of well-blended, percussion-laden deep house from the usual suspects (Blaze, Kevin Yost, Lenny Fontana), which, depending on the context and atmosphere, can either add a bit of stylish sexiness to your affair or put everyone in a comatose state. However, those who like their house smooth, warm, and safe can proceed with caution.
