This is a concert by the guru of New Tango, recorded in Vienna in 1983. The repertoire includes three of his favorite pieces, "Verano Porteno," "Invierno Porteno," and his unofficial signature tune, "Libertango." Piazzolla is at his best working, as he does here, with a quintet and thus free of the temptation to pop-neo-classical string-writing, which has sometimes led him into areas perilously close to film-soundtracks (Piazzolla was the first choice for the Last Tango in Paris soundtrack).
