This live contemporary worship experience was recorded by the Promise Keepers at Coast Hills Community Church in Aliso Viejo, CA. Its intention was to capture the inspiration and excitement of the worship at the Promise Keepers events nationwide, but there's hardly any reaction from the audience. No clapping or singing along, and minimal applause. Maybe it's because, despite the sincerity of the project and array of strong modern worship tunes, the arrangements just aren't very inspiring. There are moments of beauty and quiet strength (as on the pleading "Calling Out To You"), but most of the tunes that should be upbeat play it too close to the vest. Most of the vocalists are unremarkable, but the exceptions are notable. Jeremy Camp's soulful voice is on par with many of today's rockers, while Victor Perez's few moments ("The Solid Rock" and "We Will Stand") hint at a rich gospel ability that surpasses everything else here. The best of worship music is supposed to inspire and excite in connection with our communication with God. The only promise most of the music here keeps is being polite.
