AllMusic Review by

Live Love features Doug Sahm, Augie Meyers, and company recorded live in Austin, Texas in 1977. While not the crispest live performance recording, it is nonetheless an unrelentingly rocking show. Far slicker live albums by less compelling performers pale by comparison. This is a fantastic set -- there are a few Sahm originals and some great choices of cover material. There's "Starry Eyes" by fellow Texan Roky Erickson, Eddie Floyd's "Knock On Wood," Smokey Robinson's "My Girl," and Roosevelt Sykes' "Drivin' Wheel." There aren't many bands that could tackle this range of songs and play them with the same kind of natural, honest feel. The Sir Douglas Quintet were not only drawing from the many strains of music that flowed out of and through Texas, they were also advancing things, combining their musical influences in a way that was truly unique. This is fresh and vital music.
