AllMusic Review by

It is very fortunate that Charles Mingus' 1964 sextet was so extensively recorded during its European tour, because the great Eric Dolphy (who would pass away only a few months later) rarely sounded better and this was one of the strongest groups the volatile bassist ever led. This particular LP was taken from a television broadcast. The very talented band really digs into "Fables of Faubus" and "Orange Was the Color of Her Dress" and, after Mingus stops "Ow" prematurely, the group swings hard on "Take the 'A' Train."
