Many of Chiaroscuro's later (and more modern than usual) releases quickly went out of print when the label folded, and have not yet been reissued on CD. Recorded at the same Cannes concert that resulted in an equally rewarding set released by the tiny Personal Choice label, this outing is most unusual in teaming pianist Ahmad Jamal's Trio (which also included bassist Sabu Adeyola and drummer Payton Crossley) with the great vibraphonist Gary Burton on two numbers ("The Night Has a Thousand Eyes" and Duke Ellington's "African Flower"). In addition, Jamal's group is heard performing two obscurities and "My Funny Valentine." Actually, the high point of the set is Gary Burton's somewhat amazing unaccompanied rendition of Jobim's "No More Blues."
