EMI-Capitol Special Markets' Live: Dust in the Wind is a live recording from 1996 licensed from Intersound. That means that Kansas was over a decade removed from their biggest hits -- "Point of Know Return," "Dust in the Wind," and "Carry On Wayward Son" -- at the time this concert was recorded. In other words, they were past their peak. That doesn't necessarily mean they were washed up, and there are some strong moments on this ten-track album, but overall the performances feel a little tired and perfunctory. Casual fans will be better-suited with a hits collection, while collectors will find this performance to be a bit too undistinguished (and the packaging a little too skimpy) to suit their needs.
