AllMusic Review by

This rather forbidding two-Lp set (originally released by Emanen) has four lengthy improvisations (plus two briefer "Rehearsal Extracts") by multireedist Anthony Braxton (who plays alto, flute, clarinet, contrabass clarinet and sopranino) and the very adventurous guitarist Derek Bailey. They worked out a compromise beforehand in which the plot of some of the "areas" of the pieces were predetermined (such as playing staccato in one segment, using repetition or featuring solo sections) but in general the music is freely improvised. This out-of-print twofer is primarily for listeners with a very open mind who do not dismiss such free form playing as "noise."
