Carla White is one of jazz's finest scat singers, and her scatting technique is frequently displayed throughout this live set. However, she has also grown as an interpreter of ballads and is always willing to take chances; her unusual version of "My Reverie" is quite haunting. Assisted by pianist Mark Soskin, guitarist Jerry Hahn, bassist Harvie Swartz and drummer Joe LaBarbera, White performs a wide-ranging program including Charlie Parker's "Bloomdido," "I Hear Music," her own "Who Said" (sung as half of a medley with "But Not for Me"), and "It Might as Well Be Spring." All of Carla White's recordings have their exciting moments.
